At least four people lost their lives while two others sustained injuries following a suspected cult-related shooting in the Post Office area of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The incident occurred on Sunday night when a group of armed assailants reportedly stormed a bamboo bar situated along the railway corridor and opened fire on individuals gathered at the location before escaping.

Confirming the attack, the Kwara State Police Command stated that officers responded promptly after receiving a distress call and transported the victims to the Police Clinic for urgent medical attention.

Medical personnel later confirmed the deaths of four victims, while two others survived with gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment.

Police investigations suggest that the shooting was linked to cult activities. The Command disclosed that two suspected members of a notorious cult group have already been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the suspects are assisting investigators with useful information that could lead to the arrest of other members of the criminal gang involved in the attack.

The Command added that intelligence, tactical, and covert operatives have been deployed to track down the remaining suspects and ensure they face justice.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, condemned the killings, describing the attack as a disturbing act of violence that threatens public safety and peace.

He assured residents that the police would continue efforts to apprehend all those responsible and prosecute them in accordance with the law.

The police also extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a quick recovery. Residents were encouraged to remain calm and provide any useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.

Authorities further assured the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to prevent similar incidents and maintain peace across the state.
