The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Braya Nanas after officers recovered a Browning pistol concealed inside a loaf of bread during a routine security operation in Port Harcourt.
According to the command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, the arrest was made during a stop-and-search exercise along Azikiwe Road near the Red Cross Junction. Police operatives intercepted a vehicle and conducted a thorough search of its occupants.
During the operation, officers discovered a Browning pistol carefully hidden inside a loaf of bread belonging to the suspect, who resides in the New Road area of Borikiri, Port Harcourt.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm had no visible serial number, raising concerns about its origin. The suspect reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon and told investigators he purchased it in Okrika for ₦800,000.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, warned that criminals are increasingly adopting sophisticated methods to conceal illegal weapons and evade law enforcement.
He urged residents to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities to the police, and avoid transporting or storing items whose contents they do not know, as doing so could unintentionally aid criminal operations.
The police also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that can help prevent crime and improve public safety.
