The Federal Government has announced plans to integrate the National Identification Number (NIN) database with the National Postcode System as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital identity infrastructure and improve public service delivery.
Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, disclosed the initiative on Thursday, explaining that the integration would create a unified digital ecosystem linking citizens’ identities with verified location information.
According to her, while the NIN uniquely identifies individuals, the National Postcode System will provide reliable location data, making it easier to reach citizens and deliver government services efficiently.
Coker-Odusote said the initiative follows the enactment of the NIMC Act 2026 by President Bola Tinubu, which designates the Commission as the custodian of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure for identity and the Root Certification Authority for the National Public Key Infrastructure.
She noted that the integration would improve national planning, strengthen beneficiary targeting, and enhance policy implementation across sectors such as healthcare, education, finance, logistics and emergency response.
The NIMC boss added that the project aligns with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda by promoting digital innovation, economic inclusion and more efficient public service delivery.
