Troops of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaura Namoda, Dr. Aminu Yusuf, and his family after heavily armed terrorists attacked his residence in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attack claimed the life of the rector’s private security guard, Malam Isah Bello, while another guard, Sharhabilu Haruna, sustained injuries during the assault.
According to security sources, the gunmen, who arrived on motorcycles, stormed the rector’s residence on Tsohon-Tasha Street in an attempt to abduct Dr. Yusuf, his wife and their two children.
Military personnel responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle that forced them to abandon the operation and flee. Dr. Yusuf and his family were rescued unharmed.
In a separate operation within the same local government area, troops also foiled another kidnap attempt in Tungan Dorawa community, Barkeji village, after responding to a distress call from residents.
Despite the difficult terrain, soldiers pursued the fleeing gunmen, preventing them from abducting additional victims.
Another military team rescued 22 kidnapped civilians, including a 56-year-old businessman, Alhaji Azaria, who had been taken from neighbouring homes by the terrorists.
During the operations, troops arrested a 45-year-old suspect, Falalu Yusuf, who is alleged to have supplied intelligence to the attackers by providing information about their intended targets.
The suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation and possible prosecution.
