Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said Nigeria’s banking sector has become stronger and more resilient, while assuring citizens that the country’s security challenges will eventually be overcome.
Drivetvnews gathered that Akpabio made the remarks while urging Nigerians to support the economic reforms of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stressing that financial-sector reforms, security operations and public cooperation were important to national development.
He said the period when bank failures could leave depositors without access to their funds was over, attributing the development to reforms introduced under the Tinubu administration.
According to Akpabio, ongoing bank consolidation and recapitalisation have helped strengthen the financial sector, boost investor confidence and improve protection of depositors’ funds.
On insecurity, the Senate President acknowledged that criminal activities remained a major obstacle to economic growth and investment.
He said security agencies had adopted a more proactive approach in confronting criminals, including bandits and insurgents.
“The security forces are taking the fight directly to the enclaves of criminals, bandits, and insurgents,” he said, assuring Nigerians that insecurity would be defeated.
Akpabio also called for stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies, noting that military and security equipment alone could not eliminate criminality.
He urged Nigerians to provide timely and credible information about suspicious activities to security authorities, describing community intelligence as an important component of security operations.
The Senate President further acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians, saying the sacrifices being made were part of efforts to address structural challenges and strengthen the economy.
He maintained that the Federal Government remained committed to policies aimed at improving the country’s economic prospects and urged Nigerians at home and abroad to support national development.
