The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old man, Ayomide Ojo, over the alleged vandalism and theft of house-wiring cables valued at about ₦2.69 million in Ogbomoso.
Ojo was reportedly arrested at about 5:30am on September 21, 2026, by operatives of the Monitoring Unit attached to the Ogbomoso Base during an anti-crime patrol along Bosunla Street.
According to the police, the suspect was allegedly found carrying a sack containing house-wiring cables suspected to have been removed from a building under construction.
The command said preliminary questioning led to an alleged confession by Ojo, who reportedly named an accomplice, identified as Warris, who is currently at large.
Police said the suspect subsequently took detectives to an uncompleted building opposite Akala House, where the cables were allegedly removed.
The owner of the property, identified as Salaudeen Rasaq, reportedly valued the vandalised cables at ₦2,692,000.
The police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice and identify other individuals allegedly involved in the theft, including those suspected of receiving and selling vandalised cables.
The command urged residents to provide credible information that could assist security agencies in tackling cable vandalism, theft and the activities of suspected receivers across Oyo State.
