The Oyo State Government has declared Monday a work-free day for teachers across the state as part of activities marking the 2026 Teachers’ Day celebration.
The decision was contained in a circular issued on Sunday in Ibadan by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.
According to the government, the gesture demonstrates its commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional growth of teachers in the state.
Babatunde described teachers as the backbone of Oyo’s education system and important contributors to human capital development.
He explained that the work-free day would allow teachers to participate fully in programmes organised to celebrate their contributions to the education sector.
The SSG added that the break would also give teachers an opportunity to reflect on developments in the education sector and promote greater unity among members of the teaching profession.
The state government congratulated teachers on the occasion and reaffirmed its commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across Oyo State.
