A tragedy occurred at University of Ilorin when a yet-to-be-identified student’s vehicle, a white mini bus, overturned. A female passenger was found lying on the ground, bleeding, while some Good Samaritans tried to rescue the students trapped inside the vehicle.
Kwara Police Command spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the incident, stating that one student died, and others, including the driver, are being treated at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.
Ejire-Adeyemi explained, “The bus driver was transporting students out of the school premises. Near the exit lane close to the school gate, the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn while still in motion. Sadly, one student died, and others were injured but are currently receiving treatment at the university hospital. The driver is also being treated.”
A post on X.com by the UNILORIN Students Union @UiLStudentUnion reported that the victims are receiving care at the Intensive Care Unit. The post advised, “Dear Unilorites, please note that the victims of this unfortunate incident are receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit. Disregard other information at this time. We will provide further updates as needed.”
Attempts to reach the UNILORIN Students’ Union President, Joseph Ologundudu, and Public Relations Officer, Oluwatobi Atolagbe, for additional comments were unsuccessful as they did not respond to calls at the time of reporting.
