Early Friday morning, a fire erupted at a seven-storey building on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area, according to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service. The blaze was reported around 5:17 am, leading to an immediate response from firefighters.
Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, stated that the agency received a distress call shortly after the fire began and quickly dispatched teams from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations.
The statement detailed that on August 16, 2024, at 05:17 hours, the service was alerted to a fire at Sanni Adewale Street, affecting several shops within the building. Firefighters arrived at the scene by 05:33 hours.
The quick response from the Lagos State Firefighters helped bring the situation under control. Ventilation efforts are ongoing to ensure safety in the area. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electrical surge. No casualties have been reported.
