Unidentified terrorists believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram/Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) launched an assault on a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, resulting in an undisclosed number of fatalities among Nigerian soldiers. Many personnel remain unaccounted for following the attack, which occurred on Saturday, January 4, 2025.

Security sources reported that the attackers destroyed several buildings and military vehicles during the assault, which lasted over two hours.

“The 25 Taskforce Brigade was attacked over the weekend, resulting in significant casualties. So far, we have recovered more than seven bodies,” a source revealed to Drivetvnews on Monday. “The insurgents stormed the Sabon Gari FOB around 4 a.m. on Saturday, employing various weapons in their offensive.”

Since the death of Abubakar Shekau, the former leader of Boko Haram, ISWAP has been strengthening its influence in areas surrounding Lake Chad. The group has grown in numbers as hundreds of Boko Haram members have defected to their ranks.

The Nigerian Army continues to reaffirm its commitment to eradicating terrorism within the country. Over the years, terror groups in northeastern Nigeria have caused widespread devastation, claiming numerous lives and displacing millions, especially in Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe States.
