The Abia State Police Command has reported the successful rescue of four kidnapped victims and the elimination of six suspected kidnappers in a recent operation.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, detailed that the operation took place in Osokwa, Osisioma, Ngwa Local Government Area.

The rescued individuals were identified as Onwuka Chimela, Onwuka Emeh Chinaza, Isreal Ikemsinachi Ukandu, and Ibiam Kingsley. They had been abducted on March 9 at approximately 9:30 AM while traveling in a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road in Obingwa.

After five days in captivity, law enforcement officers successfully located the kidnappers’ hideout through intelligence gathering and advanced tracking techniques.

A tactical police team raided a three-bedroom bungalow where the hostages were being held. Upon arrival, the officers encountered armed resistance but quickly subdued the attackers.

“The suspects engaged our operatives in a gunfight, but our team, equipped with superior firepower, overpowered them, eliminating six kidnappers and safely rescuing the four victims,” Chinaka stated.

Weapons recovered from the scene included two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 34 rounds of live ammunition.

Though shaken by their ordeal, the rescued individuals were unharmed and were immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical evaluation.

Commissioner of Police Danladi Isa commended the officers for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining security in the state.

“This operation is a strong warning to criminals that Abia State will not be a haven for illegal activities. We also urge residents to report anyone with gunshot wounds to the nearest police station,” he emphasized.

Authorities confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the gang who fled with injuries. The police reassured the public of their continued dedication to eradicating crime and ensuring the safety of residents.
