Emmanuel Obodoezie, a tricycle operator in Aba, Abia State, demonstrated remarkable honesty by returning N2.04 million that a trader accidentally left in his vehicle. The incident, which took place on Wednesday at the Ariaria International Market, earned him widespread praise from the market’s traders.

Obodoezie recounted the event to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), explaining that he had picked up a woman along Powerline Road and dropped her off near the Free Zone area, where fish is sold. When she paid him N250 instead of the N300 fare, he accepted it without complaint and continued on his way.

Unaware that the woman had forgotten her bag in his tricycle, Obodoezie only realized it when the bag fell off due to the rough condition of the road. Bystanders alerted him, and upon stopping, he suspected that it belonged to the woman he had recently dropped off.

Before he could take action, a passerby opened the bag and discovered the cash inside. Some people attempted to take part of the money, but Obodoezie intervened, ensuring that it remained intact. He then asked someone to safeguard the money while he searched for the rightful owner.

Fortunately, the trader, Mrs. Chika Aloysius-Iwu, was already looking for him after realizing she had left her bag in the tricycle. When they met, Obodoezie led her to where the money had been kept for safekeeping, ensuring that she retrieved it in full.

Aloysius-Iwu, who had intended to deposit the money at the bank, expressed immense gratitude. She recounted how she had panicked upon reaching her stall and rushed back to find the tricycle operator. Overwhelmed by Obodoezie’s honesty, she prayed for blessings upon him and his family.

The Chairman of Ariaria T-Line, Emmanuel Njoku, also praised Obodoezie’s integrity, calling him a rare example of honesty in challenging times. He urged the government and kind-hearted individuals to recognize and reward such exemplary behavior.
