Despite restrictions on political gatherings and convoys, an overwhelming number of supporters gathered in Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State on Tuesday to welcome Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan back to her hometown.

The senator made a striking entrance by arriving in a helicopter, leaving the waiting crowd in awe. Many had assembled in front of her family residence in Ihima early in the morning, eagerly anticipating her arrival.

Defying police warnings and a curfew imposed by the Okehi Local Government Chairman, Amoka Monday, the enthusiastic supporters carried placards and chanted slogans in solidarity with Akpoti-Uduaghan.

The Kogi State Government had announced a ban on public gatherings a day earlier, citing security concerns. Despite this, the senator insisted on her right to return home, emphasizing that she would not be deterred.

Prior to her visit, Akpoti-Uduaghan issued a stern warning on social media, holding Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo, and former Governor Yahaya Bello accountable should any violence occur during her Sallah celebrations.

“No One Can Prevent Me from Coming Home”

Addressing the jubilant crowd in her native Egbira language, Akpoti-Uduaghan reaffirmed her dedication to her people and dismissed efforts to intimidate her.

“This is my home, my town. No one can stop me from coming back. I am the daughter of the late Dr. Abdul Akpoti.”

Her homecoming highlights the ongoing political tensions in Kogi State, as she continues to assert her presence despite opposition from state authorities.
