The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of individuals suspected in the killing of Mrs. Blessing Eze, an Igbo trader who lost her life at Ifo Market last Friday.

Superintendent Kamorudeen Olabisi, the Divisional Police Officer of Ifo, announced the arrests during a peace-building meeting organized by the Chairman of Ifo Local Government, Hon. Idris Kusimo. The meeting was convened to address growing unrest and ensure calm in the community following the tragic incident.

SP Olabisi revealed that the suspects, believed to be local thugs, have been charged in court and are currently being held at the Ilaro Correctional Centre. He urged market traders and residents to report any acts of extortion, harassment, or violence to law enforcement, assuring them that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely.

Hon. Kusimo emphasized that a full investigation has been launched to uncover the events that led to Mrs. Eze’s death. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring justice and restoring peace in the community.

The peace meeting brought together political leaders, security operatives, traditional representatives, transport union officials, and members of the Igbo community, all working toward a peaceful resolution.

Condemning the killing, the police described it as a grave offense that contradicts the values of the Ifo community. They pledged to hold all those involved accountable.

Hon. Kusimo extended his condolences to the victim’s family and the broader Igbo community. He also thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun for his prompt intervention, which helped prevent further unrest in the area. Kusimo reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting peace and enforcing law and order.

He further acknowledged the swift actions of the Nigeria Police, Department of State Services (DSS), Amotekun Corps, and other security agencies for their role in stabilizing the situation.

Hon. Monday Chukwuji, a representative from the Office of the Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to inter-ethnic harmony and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.

High Chief Theophilus Ikpeghibum, the Babaloja of the Ndi’gbo Traders, praised the local government for its efforts but urged immediate action to stop illegal levies and extortion by criminal elements in the market.

Chief Tijani Adesina, representing the Olu of Ifo, described the Igbo community as peaceful and essential to Ifo’s cultural fabric. He strongly condemned the killing and assured that traditional authorities are working to prevent further criminal activity in the area.

Chief Willy Okonkwo, the Eze Ndi’gbo of Ogun State, commended Hon. Kusimo’s leadership and encouraged Igbo traders to remain peaceful and cooperative with their host community. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Abiodun for his continued support and developmental efforts across the state.
