On Sunday, a large number of youths took to the streets in Benue State to protest the escalating insecurity in the region.
Despite heightened security presence in Makurdi, the state capital, demonstrators gathered in the Wurukum area, expressing outrage over the continued violence and loss of lives in the state.
Eyewitnesses reported that many of the protesters wore black clothing and carried palm fronds and placards bearing various messages. They blocked the major road in the area, disrupting traffic and calling for an immediate end to the killings.
The demonstration created panic among road users as vehicles were unable to move through the blocked route.
This protest follows a series of violent attacks that have led to numerous casualties, especially in Guma, Gwer West, Apa, and other local government areas.
Just a day earlier, suspected armed herders reportedly attacked Yelwata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, including some security personnel.
