The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned women against collecting transport fare from men without showing up for dates, warning that the act amounts to fraud and is punishable under Nigerian law.

The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned women against the growing habit of collecting transport money from men and failing to honor arranged meetings, warning that the act is criminal.

The warning came after a viral video surfaced showing the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, addressing the issue. Speaking on Wednesday via her official X handle, she emphasized that such behavior constitutes fraud and could lead to arrest and prosecution.

“Why would you collect money from someone and refuse to show up? That is an offence—punishable under the law,” Iringe-Koko said.

She explained that the act falls under obtaining money by false pretence (popularly called “419”), which is recognized as a criminal offence in Nigeria. She urged men who fall victim to such deceit to report to the police for proper investigation and possible legal action.

Iringe-Koko also advised the public to avoid engaging in fraudulent or manipulative financial dealings, stressing that dishonesty in any form attracts legal consequences.
