A joint operation by security agencies in Kwara State on Monday night targeted criminal enclaves in Ifelodun Local Government Area, resulting in heavy casualties among the armed groups.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the operation in a statement on Tuesday, noting that while the number of government casualties has not yet been disclosed, several bandits and kidnappers were neutralised.
This offensive followed the killing of at least 12 people, including a community leader, by suspected bandits in Oke Ode on Sunday morning.
According to the statement, the coordinated assault took place around Baba Sango, close to the Kwara–Kogi border. Military sources added that the Nigerian Air Force provided aerial strikes to support the ground troops, intensifying efforts to dismantle the criminal networks.
“The combined forces confronted the bandits in their camps on Monday night, leading to significant losses among them,” the CPS said. “The operation came barely 24 hours after the tragic killings in Oke Ode.”
Authorities have not yet released official details on casualties among the security forces. However, the government assured residents that security operations would continue until the affected areas are completely secured.
