Thirty-seven residents abducted by bandits in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State have been released.

The lawmaker representing Bakori constituency in the Katsina State House of Assembly, Alhaji Abdulrahman Kandarawa, confirmed the development on Friday.

He said the freed victims include 17 women, two children and 18 men, all of whom were returned following a peace agreement reached with the bandits.

Kandarawa explained that no ransom was paid, noting that the release was part of ongoing dialogue efforts aimed at restoring calm in the area.

According to him, with the latest development, there are no known victims from Bakori still in captivity.

“At this moment, we are not aware of any resident from this local government still held in the forest,” he said.

He appealed to residents to support efforts to sustain the improved peace in their communities.
