A diesel tanker carrying about 33,000 litres of fuel overturned on the Akala Expressway in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, spilling diesel onto the road and crushing a parked black Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV owned by a woman.
Footage of the incident, which surfaced on social media platform X, showed the visibly shaken owner of the vehicle making a phone call—believed to be to her husband—while expressing distress over the destruction of her SUV and insisting that the tanker driver take responsibility for the damage.
Eyewitnesses said the tanker lost balance and fell onto the stationary vehicle, causing extensive damage. Despite the large volume of fuel spilled across the expressway, no fire outbreak occurred.
No injuries or deaths were recorded in the incident, according to people at the scene.
Authorities were yet to issue an official statement on the cause of the accident as of the time of reporting.
