Suspected terrorists have abducted two traditional chiefs in Ihale-Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, raising fresh concerns over insecurity in the area.

The victims were identified as Chief Samuel Fagbemi and Chief Zacheus Sunday Fagbemi, with the latter also serving as a member of the Kogi State Vigilante Service.

The abduction reportedly took place on Wednesday afternoon when heavily armed attackers invaded Ihale-Bunu on more than 20 motorcycles and whisked the chiefs away.

Both men are said to be prominent and respected figures in the community. As of the time of reporting, it was unclear whether the kidnappers had contacted the families or made any ransom demands. The Kogi State Government and the state police command had not issued official statements on the incident.

The development comes amid a recent series of kidnappings in Bunu land. Earlier, abducted residents from Aiyetoro Kiri community were released in phases after weeks of negotiations and ransom payments. The Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association confirmed that the final group of six victims was freed recently, bringing an end to a prolonged and distressing ordeal for their families and the community.

According to the association, the release process began with seven victims freed on January 1, 2026, followed by three others on January 12, and fourteen more the next day. The final six were released after sustained negotiations and significant financial contributions from families, community members, and supporters.

The association described the efforts to secure the victims’ freedom as demanding and emotionally draining, noting that extensive resources and persistent dialogue were required under uncertain conditions.
