Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on residents of the state to actively participate in the August 15 governorship election and protect their votes in line with democratic principles.
Drivetvnews gathered that Adeleke made the call on Friday during separate visits to the palaces of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesha, Oba Adeleke Oke, and the Elegboro of Ijebu-Jesa, where he sought support for his re-election bid.
The governor was accompanied by his cousin and Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as well as other leaders of the Imole Campaign Council.
According to Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor urged voters to remain courageous and exercise their constitutional right to vote, insisting that no one should prevent them from participating in the electoral process.
He also stressed the importance of safeguarding their ballots after voting, saying the people of Osun were prepared to protect their democratic mandate during the poll.
At the palace of the Ajalaye of Ipetu-Ijesha, Oba Adeleke Oke praised the governor’s administration and expressed confidence in his performance over the past four years.
The monarch also hosted a victory prayer involving representatives of different faiths and pledged the support of his community for Adeleke and the Accord Party ahead of the election.
Oba Oke expressed optimism that Adeleke would secure another term and improve further on his achievements if re-elected.
Speaking during campaign activities in Ipetu-Ijesha and Ijebu-Jesa, Adeleke assured supporters that adequate security arrangements would be in place during the election.
He urged residents to mobilise their families, friends and other eligible voters to participate in the poll, while encouraging them to support what he described as good governance and continuity.
The governor further appealed to the Ijesa people and other Osun residents not to be intimidated, urging them to turn out, cast their ballots and ensure that their votes count.
