A House of Representatives committee investigating the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council has cleared President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, of involvement in the organisation’s activities.

The Ad Hoc Committee said its preliminary investigation found no evidence that Gbajabiamila authorised, established or participated in the activities of the purported agency.

Committee Chairman, Yusuf Gagdi, said evidence showed that Gbajabiamila instead contacted security and investigative agencies after concerns about the organisation were brought to his attention.

The panel said the concerns were initially raised by the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission over alleged fraudulent activities and misuse of government materials. Gbajabiamila reportedly contacted the police, DSS, EFCC and the Office of the National Security Adviser within a day.

The committee also found that a letter allegedly appointing Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi as Director-General of the organisation was forged and falsely attributed to the Presidency. It said the document was not issued or signed by Gbajabiamila and was printed on an unauthorised State House letterhead.

The lawmakers further rejected a purported executive order and an alleged National Assembly Act presented as the legal basis for establishing the organisation, saying neither document was valid.

According to the panel, its investigation found no lawful authority establishing the purported Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

The controversy began after the purported agency appeared in the 2026 Federal Government budget, with Adeyemi allegedly presenting himself as its Director-General and claiming that he had been appointed by Gbajabiamila.

The committee said its preliminary findings commended Gbajabiamila for taking security and administrative steps whenever concerns about the organisation were brought to his attention.
