The Federal Workers Forum (FWF) has called on the Federal Government to increase the national minimum wage from N70,000 to N300,000, citing the rising cost of living and growing financial pressure on civil servants.
Drivetvnews gathered that the forum made the demand in a letter dated September 2, 2026, addressed to President Bola Tinubu and key officials of the Federal Government and National Assembly.
It also proposed a new salary structure that would see Level 1 Step 1 workers earn N300,000 monthly, while the highest-paid Level 17 officers would receive N1.5 million.
The workers argued that the Federal Government had not fully implemented the 2024 minimum wage agreement, particularly the consequential adjustments and related allowances.
The FWF said the failure to complete the implementation had left federal workers struggling to cope with the rising cost of living.
The demand comes weeks after the Nigeria Labour Congress called for a separate increase of the minimum wage to N500,000.
In July 2024, the Federal Government increased the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000 per month.
