African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has declared that he will not apologise to President Bola Tinubu for previously describing him as a criminal.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Monday, Sowore insisted that if authorities intended to prosecute him over his remarks, they should first arrest African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, whom he accused of making even stronger allegations against the president.
According to Sowore, Tinubu, rather than demanding apologies, owes Nigerians an apology for seeking the country’s highest office despite questions surrounding his eligibility.
He maintained that he had no reason to retract his comments, recalling that he also refused to apologise to former President Muhammadu Buhari during his administration.
“We are here to defeat them in this election. Someone told me the reason they are charging me is because I refused to apologise to President Tinubu. For what? Did I apologise to Buhari?” he asked.
Sowore further argued that Tinubu should be apologising daily to Nigerians instead of expecting apologies from critics.
He also referenced comments allegedly made by Atiku Abubakar, saying if authorities were genuinely concerned about statements made against the president, they should first take action against the ADC candidate.
