The Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, is expected to appear before the House of Representatives ad hoc committee today over the controversial ₦1.32 billion allocation made to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC) in the 2026 budget.

The committee, chaired by Yusuf Gagdi, is investigating how the PFIPC, which the Federal Government has described as a non-existent agency, allegedly secured office space at the Federal Secretariat in Abuja and received funding in the 2026 Appropriation Act despite having no legal backing.

Lawmakers are expected to question Ogunjimi on how the council obtained an official government budget code, enabling its inclusion in the national budget.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the committee has already heard testimonies from the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Director of Banking Services, Abdullahi Hamisu, and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, while examining how the agency allegedly operated within government institutions.

The probe intensified following the arrest of Adeyemi Adeniyi, who allegedly posed as the Director-General of the PFIPC. He reportedly claimed to have paid ₦400 million through an intermediary to the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, to secure the appointment.

However, both the Presidency and Gbajabiamila have denied any connection to Adeniyi, describing him as an impostor and distancing themselves from both him and the alleged agency.

The committee is also expected to hear from several top government officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele; and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, as it continues its investigation.
