The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has dismissed reports claiming he endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election, describing the reports as false and misleading.

Drivetvnews gathered In a statement issued by his media aide, Prince Bashir Adefaka, the revered traditional ruler clarified that he remains neutral in partisan politics and has no preferred candidate for the 2027 presidential race.

According to the statement, the Sultan’s office was alerted to reports circulating on social media suggesting he had urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s re-election.

Rejecting the claim, the statement said: “It is not possible for the Sultan, as the father of all, to make such a statement, either publicly or in any other forum.”

The Sultan stressed that his position as both a traditional and religious leader requires him to remain impartial and accessible to all Nigerians, regardless of their political affiliation.

He maintained that he would neither publicly nor privately endorse any presidential aspirant, noting that his office demands fairness, neutrality and inclusiveness.

The statement further described the reports linking him to Tinubu’s 2027 campaign as a deliberate attempt to drag the Sultan into partisan politics for selfish interests.

It also reaffirmed that the monarch would continue to receive politicians, public office holders and other Nigerians without such engagements being interpreted as political endorsements.

“The Sultan’s doors cannot be shut against anyone who comes to him, regardless of political affiliation or persuasion. His Eminence has consistently demonstrated that he is the father of all and will continue to relate with all Nigerians without discrimination,” the statement added.

The clarification comes amid increasing political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, with prominent national figures frequently becoming subjects of endorsement claims on social media.
