A male student of Ajayi Crowther University in Oyo State was fatally beaten by his peers over allegations of stealing a mobile phone. The tragic incident occurred at Shepherd Inn, a hostel within the university premises, as reported by Drivetvnews.

According to sources within the university, the victim endured prolonged physical assault starting from Friday evening at 6 PM until he passed away the following morning around 10 AM. Eyewitnesses recounted that the student was forcefully shaved before the beating escalated.

One source stated, “They said they caught him with a stolen phone. They started beating him from 6pm yesterday (Friday) until he died at about 10am today (Saturday). The incident happened at ‘Shepherd Inn’. It’s like a lodge or a hostel now. They also shaved the hair of the guy before beating him.”

The deceased, whose identity remains undisclosed, was allegedly found in possession of a stolen phone, prompting the fatal vigilante justice by fellow students.

In response to the incident, the university’s management swiftly issued a statement through its spokesperson, Femi Atoyeb. The statement confirmed the death and announced the immediate expulsion of the implicated students. They were subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation and prosecution.

Atoyeb emphasized the university’s commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of misconduct, including cultism, and clarified that the expelled students were not associated with any cult groups.
