Schools in White Sand Estate, Isheri-Osun, located in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, have been forced to close temporarily due to heavy rains and subsequent flooding, disrupting normal activities in the area.

White Sand Estate, known for its vulnerability to flooding, experienced significant inundation as Wednesday’s downpour caused water levels to rise, flooding homes and rendering some areas inaccessible.

Residents in affected homes found themselves trapped as floodwaters reached mid-level heights within their residences, severely limiting movement and daily routines.

In response to these hazardous conditions, a local school (name withheld) sent notifications to parents and students, advising them to stay at home for their safety. The school cited impassable roads and the extreme weather forecast as reasons for postponing exams and suspending school bus operations for the day.

The Public Relations Officer of the area’s CDC, Johnson Olabode, expressed frustration over the recurring issue, lamenting the extensive flooding that began in the early hours and continues to obstruct drainage efforts until rainfall ceases.

Residents, including Atinuke, expressed distress as floodwaters entered their homes, highlighting the severity of the situation in White Sand Estate, Isheri-Osun.

This persistent flooding problem is exacerbated by poor road conditions, inadequate drainage systems, and a lack of maintenance in the area. Residents have repeatedly called upon the Lagos State Government to address these issues urgently.

John Adewale emphasized that annual flooding has become a nightmare for the community, underscoring the ongoing plea for improved drainage infrastructure to mitigate future incidents.

Similar challenges were reported in neighboring areas such as Iyana-Oworo, Oshodi, and Lagos Island, where heavy rainfall brought daily activities to a halt.

Videos and images circulating online depict the widespread impact of Wednesday’s flooding across various parts of Lagos, highlighting the broader challenges faced by residents in coping with extreme weather conditions.

The downpour, which began early Wednesday morning, left many residents stranded in their homes and made several streets impassable, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive flood management solutions in Lagos.
