Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for assaulting a lecturer in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

According to an expulsion letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the decision was based on the findings of the Student Disciplinary Committee. The committee ruled that her actions constituted a serious violation of the university’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

The incident gained public attention after a video surfaced online showing Precious attacking Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer at the university. Reports indicate that the altercation occurred after the lecturer disrupted a TikTok video she was recording on campus, leading to public outrage and demands for disciplinary action.

The university stated that the expulsion takes immediate effect, requiring Precious to vacate the campus and return any university property in her possession.

This decision reflects UNIZIK’s commitment to maintaining discipline within the institution and has sparked widespread reactions.

An excerpt from the letter states:

“The Acting Vice-Chancellor has reviewed the Student Disciplinary Committee’s report regarding your assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies. This act has been deemed gross misconduct and a violation of the Students’ Disciplinary Regulations under Regulation 4 (SDR).

“As a result, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the committee’s recommendation for your expulsion. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, with immediate effect.

“You are required to leave the university premises immediately and return any university property in your possession.”
