The Osun State Amotekun Corps has confirmed a violent assault on its Awo Command in the Egbedore Local Government Area, carried out by a gang allegedly led by wanted criminal, Ismaila Aluko.

In a statement released on Monday, the corps’ spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu, explained that the attack occurred over the weekend after the Oniwoye of Iwoye requested Amotekun’s assistance regarding a reported illegal burial on ancestral land.

According to Idowu, four officers were dispatched to the location, but by the time they arrived, the burial had already taken place.

“Unexpectedly, Ismaila Aluko—who has been on the wanted list for some time—emerged with an armed group and launched a violent assault on our operatives, causing injuries,” he stated.

The officers were forced to retreat to their command headquarters in Awo to prevent further escalation. However, the conflict intensified when the assailants regrouped and launched a second attack—this time directly targeting the Amotekun office.

Idowu described the second assault as bold and audacious, noting it occurred in the presence of law enforcement officials, including police officers investigating the situation, a Department of State Services (DSS) agent, and some relatives of the attackers.

“The gang tried to seize weapons from our officers and inflicted multiple injuries. One officer was seriously hurt, while four others sustained less severe wounds,” he added.

Labeling the incident as a serious threat to public safety, Idowu emphasized that the corps is collaborating with other security agencies to apprehend and prosecute all those responsible.

“We remain steadfast in our mission to safeguard lives, property, and maintain peace within our communities,” he affirmed.
