The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Shabi Rabi’u, for allegedly killing a woman and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area, following a disagreement over the child’s paternity.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Aliyu, the suspect confessed during interrogation that he had been entangled in a paternity dispute with the woman. The conflict reportedly escalated into a plan to eliminate both her and the child.
Investigators revealed that Rabi’u, with the help of an accomplice who is currently on the run, lured the victims to a secluded area on the outskirts of the village. There, they allegedly murdered the woman and her child, burned the bodies, and disposed of them in a nearby well.
Aliyu confirmed that the remains have been recovered and that efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect. He appealed to residents to provide credible information that could support the ongoing investigation, assuring the public that such details would be treated confidentially.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, condemned the crime, describing it as a cruel and inhumane act. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that justice is served and promised a thorough investigation.
