The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that the Ipele Divisional Police Headquarters was attacked on December 31, 2025, by an estimated 20 to 30 armed men.
According to the police, the assailants stormed the station around 9:41 p.m., firing assault rifles and using explosives, which caused the building to catch fire and resulted in damage to police equipment and exhibits.
Authorities clarified that no one was harmed during the attack, and rumors claiming that a nearby church was targeted were false.
In response, a joint security team, including the Police, the Army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other agencies, was immediately deployed to the area. Although the attackers had fled before security forces arrived, patrols have since been intensified to secure the community.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, condemned the incident as a threat to public safety and peace, assuring residents that the situation is under control. Additional units, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal–Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) team and Police Mobile Force operatives, have been mobilized, and a manhunt for the perpetrators is ongoing.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with security personnel by providing any information that could help identify the attackers.
The statement was confirmed by DSP Abayomi Jimoh, Police Public Relations Officer, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command.
