Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have reportedly killed a pastor and at least four other residents during a violent attack on Tarfa village in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State.
According to sources, the attackers stormed the community around 7 p.m. on Thursday, arriving on motorcycles and firing gunshots as they set houses and shops on fire. The assault forced residents to flee, leaving large parts of the village destroyed.
Witnesses said the militants operated for more than an hour without visible resistance from security forces, resulting in widespread damage and displacement of villagers.
The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Borno State, Most Rev. John Bakeni, confirmed the incident, stating that five people were killed, including an Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) pastor serving in the community. He added that the village was largely burned during the raid.
Eyewitnesses described the attack as devastating, noting that the gunmen arrived in large numbers and terrorised residents. One source identified one of the victims as Pastor Evangelist Musa Umoru and appealed for urgent government intervention, warning that survivors remain at risk.
A spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said he had not yet received full details of the incident but promised to verify the report.
Borno State continues to experience recurring insurgent attacks, with rural communities frequently targeted, raising concerns about civilian safety and the adequacy of security presence in remote areas.
