The Edo State Police Command has assured residents that it is working tirelessly to rescue a police officer and his daughter who were abducted on February 8 in Auchi.

The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, gave the assurance on Friday while briefing journalists at the State Command Headquarters in Benin City on the command’s recent operations and achievements.

Agbonika also stated that two other individuals kidnapped the same day in Makeke, Akoko Edo Local Government Area, would be safely rescued.

According to him, security operatives are actively pursuing the kidnappers, although he noted that the police would not disclose operational details.

“Rescue efforts are ongoing and we will not be able to reveal the details. However, as in other cases, technology has been deployed to secure the release of the officer and his daughter. Those kidnapped in Makeke will also be rescued,” the police commissioner said.

The commissioner further highlighted the command’s progress in combating crime since January. He revealed that several suspects have been arrested, including 13 individuals linked to murder cases, 14 suspected armed robbers, 15 suspected cultists, and 87 suspected kidnappers.

He added that the police successfully rescued 30 kidnapped victims without injury and recovered stolen items, including six vehicles, three motorcycles, and 39 mobile phones.

Agbonika noted that the command also recorded success in disrupting criminal activities through the recovery of weapons and ammunition.

“We have dealt a serious blow to the tools of violence. A large cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered,” he said.

He explained that each recovered weapon represents potential lives saved, while each arrest weakens criminal networks operating within the state.

The commissioner praised the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, for supporting the Edo Command with tactical resources, including the deployment of a police helicopter and intelligence assistance.

He also commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for providing drones and other logistics, which he said have improved the command’s operational effectiveness.

Agbonika warned criminals to stay away from Edo State, insisting that security agencies would continue to intensify their efforts.

“Edo State is completely out of bounds to criminals. No forest will be too thick, no hideout too remote, and no network too fortified for us to dismantle,” he declared.

As the Valentine season approaches, the commissioner advised residents to celebrate responsibly and remain vigilant, urging them to prioritise safety while spending time with loved ones.

He stressed that the season should be marked by peace and not reckless behaviour.
