Tension has gripped Asa Village in the Okelade area of Ido Local Government Area, Oyo State, after suspected Fulani herders allegedly killed a 47-year-old farmer, Chief Mutairu Oladosu, while he was working on his farm.

The victim, who held the title of Otun Balogun of Oluode Okelade, was reportedly attacked on his tomato farm in the presence of one of his daughters. Eyewitness accounts said a group of armed herders stormed the farm and attacked him without provocation.

The attackers were said to have overwhelmed the farmer during the assault, leaving him fatally injured.

Confirming the incident, the Okelade Okin, Oba Wahab Olabamiji, said the attack was carried out by suspected Fulani herders who invaded the community.

He disclosed that one suspect had already been arrested and handed over to the police for further investigation, while others were still being tracked.

According to him, the situation has caused serious fear among residents of the area, who now live in anxiety over repeated attacks linked to herders.

Community leaders, who visited the palace of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, said the incident reflects growing insecurity in farming communities within Ido LGA.

They expressed concern that farmlands are increasingly being invaded, while residents are unable to carry out daily activities without fear of attack.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Oba Olabamiji said efforts were made to prevent the incident from escalating into wider unrest, stressing the need for calm while security agencies handle the matter.

Responding, Oba Ladoja confirmed that he had been informed of the killing through community representatives.

He said he immediately contacted the Oyo State Commissioner of Police to ensure urgent action on the matter.

The monarch noted that the police chief confirmed that one suspect was already in custody, while efforts were ongoing to arrest others involved in the attack.

He assured residents that the case would be thoroughly investigated and that anyone found responsible would face justice.

Authorities have continued efforts to maintain calm in the affected community as investigations proceed.
