The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, has called on the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, to begin extensive consultations with traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to address rising insecurity in the region.

Drivetvnews gathered In a statement released in Ibadan by his Director of Culture and Public Relations, Ademola Adeniyi, the monarch stressed the need for community-based strategies that would complement existing security frameworks. He noted that such collaboration could strengthen intelligence gathering and improve early warning systems.

Oba Owoade emphasised that any intervention must align with the Constitution and support lawful security operations, adding that the urgency of the situation requires swift and coordinated action.

Recent attacks in parts of the region have heightened concern. These include the killing of five Nigeria Park Service officers at Old Oyo National Park, the murder of farmers in Igboho, and the abduction of a nursing mother and her child in Ondo State.

The monarch urged government authorities at all levels to maintain open and consistent communication with communities, noting that transparency and visible leadership are key to preventing panic and building public trust.

He also encouraged residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and cooperative with security agencies, stressing that organised community efforts can help detect threats early and improve collective safety.

Reaffirming the role of traditional institutions, the Alaafin said collaboration between government, security agencies, and local structures is essential to restoring peace and stability across Yorubaland.
