The top graduating student of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Oladepo Caleb Olugbenga, has attributed his academic achievement to the federal government’s student loan initiative introduced by Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Olugbenga, a graduate of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, emerged as the overall best student with an outstanding cumulative grade point average of 4.89. He explained that the NELFUND scheme played a crucial role in supporting his education, noting that his journey would have been far more difficult without the financial assistance.
Speaking after the university’s 18th convocation ceremony held in Ogbomoso, he expressed gratitude for the initiative, saying it made his success possible and eased financial pressure during his studies.
The ceremony saw a total of 7,641 students graduate, with 137 earning First Class honours. The Faculty of Agricultural Sciences produced the highest number of top-performing students with 28 First Class graduates, followed by Agricultural Science and Renewable Natural Resources with 23.
Other faculties also recorded strong performances, including Engineering and Technology with 16 First Class graduates and Computing and Informatics with 10.
Vice Chancellor, Rasaq Kalilu, described the graduating class as well-prepared for future challenges. He encouraged them to remain focused, pursue excellence, and make meaningful contributions to society, emphasizing that they represent the values and standards of the institution.
