President Bola Tinubu has announced that more than 13,000 terrorists were eliminated within the past year, while terror-related deaths across Nigeria have decreased by 81 percent since 2015.
Drivetvnews gathered that the President made the disclosure during his nationwide address marking the country’s 27th Democracy Day celebration. According to him, recent security successes have been driven by improved military strategies and stronger collaboration with international partners, including the United States, France, and other European nations.
Tinubu highlighted a major operation in Arege, Borno State, where security forces successfully dismantled a key command centre linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). He described the achievement as part of ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist networks and improve national security.
The President attributed the progress to increased government investment in the security sector. He revealed that the 2026 budget includes a record ₦5.41 trillion allocation for defence, the largest security budget in Nigeria’s history.
He also noted that over 50,000 new police officers have been recruited, alongside thousands of military personnel, as part of a broader security emergency initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s security architecture.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the government would continue to take additional measures to address security threats and maintain peace across the nation.
