The Osun Development Association (ODA) has appealed to governorship candidates, political parties and their supporters to embrace peace, tolerance and civility as preparations continue for the 2026 governorship election in Osun State.
Drivetvnews gathered that In a statement issued by the association’s Publicity Secretary, Chris Adetayo, the ODA urged political actors to avoid inflammatory statements, intimidation and any actions capable of provoking violence or disrupting the electoral process.
The association said the appeal aligns with resolutions reached during the recently concluded Osun 2026 Democratic Governance, Peace and Electoral Integrity Summit, where political leaders and other stakeholders pledged to promote issue-based campaigns, peaceful elections and democratic engagement free from violence.
ODA Chairman, Dr Segun Aina, commended Governor Ademola Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, for displaying political maturity during the funeral of the late mother of APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru.
According to Aina, the cordial interaction between the governor and the opposition candidate demonstrated that political rivalry should not undermine mutual respect, unity and democratic values.
He expressed hope that the spirit of cooperation displayed at the event would set the tone for peaceful political engagement ahead of the election.
Aina urged all contestants and their supporters to focus on presenting ideas, competence and development plans rather than resorting to hostility or violence.
He also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to encouraging dialogue among political stakeholders and promoting civic responsibility before, during and after the governorship poll.
The ODA further called on residents of Osun State to support efforts aimed at preserving peace, stability and democratic governance throughout the election period.
