Police officers in Benue State have arrested three men believed to be members of a robbery syndicate and recovered 34 mobile phones, three HP laptops and two MP3 players from them.
The spokesperson for the state police command, Udeme Edet, said in a statement released in Makurdi on Friday that the suspects were intercepted on 31 August 2025 at Orokam Junction along Obollo Afor Road during a stop-and-search operation by operatives of the Orokam Division.
She identified the suspects as Mujahid Mohammed (21), Yahaya Abdullahi (21) and Kalipha Mohammad (28), all residents of Mararaba and Nyanya in Abuja.
According to Edet, the three men confessed to belonging to a gang that had been robbing homes in Orokam, Benue State and several communities in Enugu State. They also admitted to burglarising six apartments in the Umukasi area and ten in the St. Theresa area of Nsukka, Enugu State.
The gang’s alleged leader, 27-year-old Abba Mohammed, reportedly escaped with their weapons during the arrest and is still at large. The Benue Police Command is working with its counterparts in Enugu and Gombe States to apprehend him.
Edet added that investigations are continuing to trace the owners of the recovered items.
The Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Emenari Ifeanyi, praised the patrol team for their swift action and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling crime. He also appealed to residents to provide timely information that can help keep communities safe.
