Troops under the 2 Division/Sector 3 of Operation Fansan Yamma have achieved another breakthrough in the ongoing fight against banditry in Kwara State. The soldiers successfully rescued three kidnapped victims during coordinated operations inside the Babanla Forest area.

Captain Stephen Nwankwo, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin, confirmed the operation. He stated that the rescue mission was launched after credible intelligence led troops stationed at the Babanla Patrol Base to a suspected bandit camp.

According to him, the troops rescued Mrs. Oluwabusayo Taiwo (25) and her three-year-old son, Taiwo Irayomide, who were abducted on September 28, 2025, in Oke-Ode. Both victims are currently receiving medical attention at the base’s clinic and will soon be reunited with their family.

In a separate operation, soldiers on routine patrol along a route frequently used by bandits discovered Mr. Mohammadu Sani, popularly known as Mai Shayi, a 40-year-old tea vendor from Garkarima. He was found seriously injured and left in a pool of blood after being abandoned by fleeing kidnappers. The troops provided immediate medical care and recovered a Dane gun and a cutlass from the scene.

Commending the soldiers for their bravery and swift action, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, praised their professionalism and dedication. He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of residents in Kwara and its neighbouring states.

Barkins also assured the public that the army will continue intensive patrols and offensive operations until all criminal elements threatening peace and security in the region are completely eliminated.
