The Ondo State Police Command has taken two students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, into custody for allegedly conspiring to drug and rape a 20-year-old female student.
The spokesperson for the command, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Monday, noting that the case highlights the command’s intensified focus on tackling sexual and violent crimes.
According to police findings, the victim was invited to the home of a long-time friend, identified as 19-year-old Queen Sodo. The suspect reportedly offered her a drink that had been secretly drugged, causing her to lose consciousness.
Once incapacitated, Queen allegedly left the room to call in her male accomplice, after which she reportedly kept watch while the assault was carried out.
A neighbour who heard disturbing noises rushed into the apartment and found the victim unconscious alongside the male suspect. She was rushed for medical care and later transferred to a specialist facility, where she is recovering.
Both suspects have reportedly admitted to their roles in the attack. Police also recovered the drug-laced drink and other key evidence identified by the victim and the suspects.
Ayanlade stated that the suspects will be handed over to the Gender Desk Office to face further investigation and prosecution. He emphasized that the law will take full course, regardless of the victim’s relationship with the perpetrators.
He advised parents and guardians to educate young people on the risks of misplaced trust, warning that close relationships can be exploited for criminal purposes.
