The Oyo State Government has announced plans to officially crown newly elevated traditional rulers in Ibadan, as part of ongoing efforts to promote cultural heritage and reinforce traditional leadership structures.

The coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the Mapo Hall grounds in Ibadan, starting at 10:00 a.m.

During the event, three prominent chiefs will be installed as crown-wearing Obas. They include Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin, the Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland; Oba Oyekola Babalola (SAN), the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland; and Oba Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, the Ekarun Balogun of Ibadanland.

Governor Seyi Makinde will present them with the Staff of Office, a symbol of their formal recognition and elevated status within the Ibadan traditional hierarchy. The development reflects ongoing changes in the structure of traditional leadership in the region.

According to the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, the current administration has so far installed 12 Obas and more than 40 Baales since 2019—an achievement described as unprecedented in the state’s history.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Demola Ojo, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions to foster unity, preserve cultural values, and support inclusive development.

The event is expected to attract dignitaries from across the country, including traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the public.
