Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have taken into custody former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, shortly after his release from Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja.

The arrest took place on Monday at the entrance of the custodial facility. A video obtained by Tribune Online shows Malami being escorted by DSS officers into a vehicle believed to belong to the security agency moments after leaving the prison premises.

In the footage, the former minister is heard questioning the operatives and requesting to see their official identification cards before entering the vehicle.

“Who is the oga among you? Can I see your ID card?” Malami asked.

As of the time this report was filed, the DSS had not issued an official statement confirming or explaining the arrest.

It would be recalled that Malami, alongside his wife and son, was recently granted bail by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Each of them was admitted to bail in the sum of ₦500 million, with stringent conditions attached.

The trio is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over a 16-count charge bordering on alleged money laundering and other related offences.

Further details surrounding the DSS action are expected as events unfold.
