Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing the release of abducted schoolchildren, their teacher, and principal from Oriire Local Government Area, declaring that every possible measure is being taken to bring them home safely.
Speaking to protesters in Ibadan on Tuesday, the governor revealed that a Nigerian Army lieutenant lost his life during a recent rescue operation, highlighting the dangers faced by security personnel involved in efforts to free the victims.
Makinde stressed that Oyo State would not allow the situation to escalate into a crisis similar to the 2014 Chibok Schoolgirls Kidnapping. He assured residents that authorities remain determined to prevent such an outcome while pursuing the safe return of those in captivity.
The governor acknowledged the sacrifices already made by security operatives and expressed his willingness to make personal sacrifices if necessary to ensure the victims regain their freedom. However, he emphasized that the government’s primary objective is to rescue the abducted individuals without causing further loss of life.
According to Makinde, officials are carefully balancing rescue efforts with the need to protect both hostages and security personnel. He noted that a teacher had already been lost in the crisis and reiterated the importance of avoiding additional casualties wherever possible.
He assured residents that the state government, alongside security agencies, would continue exploring every available option to secure the release of the abducted schoolchildren and school staff while maintaining public safety.
