The Ogun State Police Command has thwarted a suspected cult initiation exercise in Isara-Remo, leading to the arrest of 30 individuals during a coordinated security operation.
According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the raid was carried out on June 16, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) working alongside officers from the Isara Area Command and Isara Division.
The operation followed intelligence reports indicating that a group of suspected hoodlums had gathered in an uncompleted building for activities linked to cultism, including initiation rites, chanting, and the consumption of alcoholic substances.
Acting on the information, security personnel stormed the location, dispersed the gathering, and apprehended the suspects without incident.
During the operation, officers also recovered four vehicles allegedly abandoned by individuals attempting to flee the scene. Other items seized included a jackknife, a local drum, a sekere (traditional rattle), and several bottles believed to have been used during the gathering.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue into their alleged involvement in cult-related activities.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised their swift and professional response. He reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and warned that cultism and other criminal activities would not be tolerated anywhere in the state.
Ojajuni also encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious gatherings or unlawful activities to security agencies.
