A 20-year-old man, Damian Oforbuike, has been banished from his community in Ohatekwe Ukawu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, after allegedly killing his mother.
The incident, which reportedly occurred over the weekend, has left residents in shock and mourning. According to sources, the suspect attacked his mother, Onyemaechi, with a machete before fleeing into a nearby forest.
Youth members of the community later organised a search, tracked him down in the forest, and apprehended him. After his arrest, he was paraded around the community and subsequently banished, with a warning never to return.
In a video that circulated online, the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime, claiming he acted out of frustration after his mother refused to bathe him and declined to provide financial support for his brother to start a barbing business.
The councillor representing the area, Maduabuchi Nweke, confirmed the incident, stating that over 200 youths were mobilised to locate and arrest the suspect.
He added that the suspect has been handed over to the police for further investigation, while the body of the deceased has been deposited in a morgue.
