Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered the immediate suspension of all activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in motor parks across the state as part of efforts to strengthen security and restore order.

Drivetvnews gathered that the directive was announced after a meeting of the Osun State Security Council, chaired by the governor on Thursday.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government said the decision followed extensive discussions on the security situation in the state and the need to maintain peace in motor parks.

Governor Adeleke clarified that while motor parks will remain open, no individual or group will be allowed to operate under the banner of the NURTW until further notice.

He also directed the suspension of all levy collections in motor parks and ordered security agencies to arrest anyone posing as an official or executive of the union.

“The parks should remain open, but no one should operate there in the name of the union. Anyone who violates this directive should be arrested and prosecuted for disturbing public peace,” the governor stated.

To ensure strict compliance, the governor approved the immediate establishment of a Rapid Response Squad made up of personnel from various security agencies operating in the state.

Security agencies represented at the meeting—including the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigerian Correctional Service, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun)—assured the government of their readiness to enforce the directive.

The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Governor, the Chief of Staff, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, and the Special Adviser on Security Matters.
