The Imole Campaign Council has rejected reports that Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, is planning to leave the Accord Party for the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Drivetvnews gathered that the clarification followed Adeleke’s recent meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Imole Campaign Council, Bamidele Salam, said the governor’s visit was simply a political courtesy traditionally observed after off-cycle elections.
The council explained that Adeleke, having secured victory in the August 15 Osun governorship election, considered it appropriate to visit the President and pay respect to the office of the Commander-in-Chief.
According to the campaign council, the meeting also provided an opportunity for Tinubu and Adeleke to discuss issues concerning peace, security and the development of Osun State following the tense election period.
The council specifically denied suggestions that the meeting was connected to any plan by Adeleke to join the APC.
It maintained that the issue of defection did not arise at any point during the governor’s visit to the President.
Adeleke met with Tinubu on Thursday, accompanied by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and members of his campaign team. The meeting was his first publicly known engagement with Tinubu since winning re-election.
The visit came shortly after Tinubu congratulated Adeleke on his electoral victory and expressed hope that the outcome would strengthen democracy in Osun State.
The Imole Campaign Council assured supporters that Adeleke remains committed to governing Osun State and delivering on his mandate.
