Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called on the United Nations and international human rights organisations to support an independent investigation into the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

Makinde stressed that protecting children, teachers and educational institutions remains a top priority, describing attacks on schools as a serious threat to the right to education and the safety of communities.
He urged the United Nations and other global human rights bodies to work alongside Nigerian authorities by providing technical expertise and support to strengthen ongoing efforts to address the security challenges.
The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborating with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety of those affected and bring those responsible for the abduction to justice.
Makinde noted that stronger partnerships between local authorities, national institutions and international organisations are vital to improving school security and protecting vulnerable groups across the country.
Human rights advocates have continued to call for stronger safeguards for schools, insisting that protecting children’s access to education requires decisive action against threats targeting learning environments.
